An exceptional and rare antique Chinese lacquer writing box, the lift up cover elaborately decorated with a central figural scene set within a scrolling dragon surround along with small vignettes. The box has carrying handles to either side with the sides similarly decorated. The cover opens to form a writing slope with inset red velvet with three covered compartments two with hinged door covers and one with a lift out cover revealing a compartment containing a pen tray, a further covered compartment and a recess for an inkwell. The writing box has a black lacquered base and interior and is not marked.
