Antique Framed Chinese Embroidered Textile Description and Item Information Up for sale is this large, antique, framed Chinese embroidered silk panel. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This fabulous example has lush embroidery depicting birds, flowers, a tree, and a butterfly or moth. The workmanship is excellent, with great detail, particularly in the birds' feathers. The panel is housed inside a pierced and carved dark hardwood frame, under glass.

The exterior frame measurements are approximately 52 inches by 37 1/4 inches. The sight area of the embroidered panel is approximately 43 1/4 inches by 28 1/2 inches. This is a heavy piece.

It would be a fine addition to a collection of antique Chinese textile art. The exact age of this Chinese piece is not known, but it is believed to be antique. Photo 11 shows some markings on the rear stretchers; this stretcher area is covered by the wooden backing, which I removed so I could photograph this area.

Condition This piece looks good overall, as shown. The panel has some color fading. Otherwise, a few small, scattered discoloration spots do not detract. There is a ripped area in the fabric panel, as shown in Photo 6. There is a thin run or snag in the silk fabric, as is visible in Photo 2 (right hand side). A small piece of the frame on the right hand side was broken off and re-glued, and there are some scattered, fine splits in the wooden frame (examples visible in composite Photo 12). The frame has light wear overall.

The back side is as shown; the wood backing is split. At the bottom edge of the frame's rabbet, there are some shims holding the panel in place. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. And international government regulations prohibit such behavior.
