Chinese Bed Canopy Wedding Opium Intricately Carved Antique Red Lacquer & Gold

  
An Extremely Beautiful Antique Chinese Wedding/Opium Canopy Bed. Intricately Hand Carved in extraordinary detail. Decorated in predominately Red, Lacquer with backgrounds of Black Lacquer plus gilt painting and gold leaf. A fine example of Suzhou Category Characterized by it's magnificent elaborate decoration developed from earlier Qing Dynasty furniture.

The decoration Is very masculine with warriors or hunters on horseback, deer, birds in flight, plants and flowers. The top cornice features, at either end, large Phoenix like Birds, Lions, and a center sun flower. The inside panels of the bed are decorated rectangles framed in red with black backgrounds and gilt floral scenes. Outer sides of the bed two side and the back are not painted, but are natural wood which developed a beautiful soft brown patina. The Canopy area of the bed is designed for privacy curtains on all four sides.

The bed can be used for sleeping or, can be used as a snuggle area or seating in a living or family room. Assembly is fast, since it is constructed using joinery and doweling alone, no nails or screws. Assembled by 2 or 3 persons. It is sturdy and was in daily use in it's current home.
