Chinese Peacock with Sun Rank Badge (3rd Rank) Qing Dynasty UNIQUE

  
The peacock is a symbol of elegance, dignity, and beauty and denotes the third civil rank. This badge, dating to the Late Qing Dynasty, was made for a female, due to its position right of the sun.

It is intricately detailed with a metallic couched thread. This pieces is unused and is in pristine, textbook condition. This badge came from and old German collection, that did not see the light of day for over 50 years. In the 1930's it was taken out of China, and many other pieces from this same collection also remain totally unused. We are a working jewelry store and gallery and, therefore, are not available to answer questions on weekends.
