Dark Bone Chinese Opium Antique

  
This rare opium pipe dates back to the 19th century. The body is made of a very dark bone, showing some light spots deep in the bone, giving it an exceptional texture. The end parts are of light green marbled jade.

At both ends metal rings engraved with geometrical patterns precede these parts. The saddle is of massive constructions.

Multiple overlapping metal layers make an exceptional piece of craftsmanship. At its bottom part we distinguish a. Further above, it is decorated with abstract and vegetal patterns. In its center we find the depiction of a cat. Above this a small part shows a stylized bat.

A signature mark can be seen on the side of the saddle. The dark opium bowl perfectly matches the pipe. Its surface is covered by a marbled effect. On its top side we can see a stylized scene showing two riders in a landscape. In the top left we find an inscription which might be the signature as non is found at the bottom.

This depiction has been sculpted into the clay and has then been inlayed with clay of a different color. This very meticulous work required great skills and defines this bowl as of the most luxurious. The pipe as well as the bowl are in splendid condition. The pipe: length 60,5 cm (23.82) diameter 2,2-2,6 cm (0.87-1.02).
