Here we have a neolithic Chinese hand carved altered nephrite jade ceremonial axe. The jade shows the many thousands of years of history which has left the original green translucent nephrite jade visible now only in small sections defying the elements and time. Across the whole axe the surface showing natural suffusion, erosion and weathering. These details quite beautiful and very complex attesting to the authenticity and history of this stone age artifact. At the top of the axe double sided hole drilling has been used to allow for suspension.

On the front are encoded symbols and a stylized highly graphic and emotive abstraction of a human face. It measures approximately 7 1/4" long by 5 5/16" wide by 13/16 thick with the thickness curved towards the center of the axe and tapered to an edge at the bottom (184mm x 135mm x 20mm).

This rare neolithic ceremonial jade makes a wonderful addition to any collection of fine Chinese art and antiquities. An appraisal is included with this rare jade.
