Antique Chinese Cinnabar Lacquer Jar Description and Item Information Up for sale is this old Chinese cinnabar lacquer ginger jar, urn, or lidded vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. The exterior is carved red cinnabar lacquer, and the interior and base are black.

This piece is beautifully carved with scenic decoration. The details of the trees and mountains is amazingly exquisite. There also are carved floral and key patterns; the backgrounds of the scenes are finely textured. This piece stands approximately 7 7/16 inches tall, and it is about 6 1/8 inches long and 6 1/8 inches wide. Unpacked, it weighs 1 pound 7.7 ounces. This would be a fine addition to a collection of Asian decorative arts. Identification This unmarked jar is Chinese. It is antique, but the exact age is not known.

Condition The jar looks very good overall, with minor wear. There is some wear to the edges and base. The black areas have some wear.

To the lower edges of the jar, there are a few small areas where the lacquer has worn down; these areas appear to have been filled/touched-up at some point (please request photos, if needed). Under close inspection, I spotted a couple of very fine and short (1/8 inch or less) fissures in the lacquer (example visible in Photo 2, at lower edge of lid on left side). Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made.
