This gorgeous antique cabinet features an all over delicate mixed materials inlay6 of engraved mother of pearl, carved stone pieces and a raised enamel or lacquer to describe the fine branches and linear aspects of the design. I feel the motifs are more Chinese than Japanese- such as the bat motif inside the cabinet door? All upon a solid wooden cabinet that opens to four inner drawers. I note the four main hinges to the cabinets outer doors have been replaced with smaller and rather less effective hinges at some time.

One of these is loose as shown. Numerous scuffs rubbing and chipping to the black lacquered finish and some losses to the inlays as shown also. The front cabinet doors missing one of their brass knobs. Far from pristine- and yet somehow its weathering only seems to enhance the appeal of this fine old piece. Only the small hinge needs fixing otherwise will give another hundreds years active service! The cabinet stands approx 18cm in height, is 23cm depth 16cm.
