Antique Chinese puppet diorama The Water Margin Shuihuzhuan Qing dynasty

  
I have this in my shop. A friend asked me to sell it for her. I never knew what it was until yesterday. I was told it was about 150 years old and was part of a temple installation. It is 22 inches tall and 29 inches wide, being about 5 inches in depth. It is very ornate and the workmanship must have been time-consuming. I just found out that this works depicts a scene from the famous novel, The Water Margin (Shuihuzhuan) in which one of the protagonists, Lin Chong, was being tried at the highest criminal court, the Hall of the White Tiger. This type of wood carved puppet diorama was apparently very popular during the Qing dynasty.
