Chinese Antique Hand Carved Palace Screen    Chinese Antique Hand Carved Palace Screen

The screen is executed in its entirety of unparalleled three-dimensional wood carving. The excellence of the carving is considered to be among the finest. The scene running everywhere, both in the front and back of the screen, is the imperial five toed dragon chasing the glowing flaming pearl. For its age, the condition of the screen, as the knowledgeable would attest, is considered next to perfect with tiny chips here and there that can only be found with very close and lengthy inspection and in no way deters the beauty of this piece.

The only addition we have noticed is that, probably in the next century after it was made, the interior of the handsome base was strengthened with heavy wooden logging within the foundational walls in order to safeguard this rare testament to very grand antiquity. The owners state that they acquired this quietly famous piece from the estate of the previous owner whose identity is also shrouded in anonymity. In our attempt to attain information on the screens prior owner, we could only discover that it had belonged to a businessman who often made trips to. And must have stumbled upon it when he traveled there for business reasons that had nothing to do with fine arts and antiques.

We suppose it was displayed in luxurious professional offices and brought to the. Through successful negotiations made possible by his popularity and reputation in business. When that owner passed away sometime in the last two decades, this magnificent artifact stood idle in a building owned by the deceased that was closed down, possibly due to an estate fight. The businessman was neither a collector nor were there others close to him and had any idea of the scope or value of the piece. It was only when realtors were contracted to sell the building that it was decided that the building would be more desirable with all the old things removed. And so it wound its way to the current fortunate owners.

The screen is believed to have been executed during the late 19th or early 20th century. With regrets, the guardianship is hereby offered to the custody of one who can respect, honor, and glory in the aura of its presence. Size is 9'4" in height, 11'6" wide, and about 2' in depth.
