Chinese Carved Bamboo Scholars Pine Libation Cup, Qing dynasty. A pine bamboo libation cup carved and pierced as a gnarled pine trunk with detailed oval knots carved in low relief. Such a design imitates rhinoceros horn examples. The handle shaped as a twisted pine branch issuing groups of pine needles, rising from the foot and reaching into the smooth interior.

The exterior richly carved and continuous figural landscape is depicted with further pine. Trees and jagged rockwork; all beneath billowing clouds.

Enclosed, are a multitude of scholars engaged in leisurely pursuits upon a boat, their gestures and animated expressions meticulously picked out. Perfect for the Scholars studio and indeed any good collection. (W)14.7 x (H)16cm.
