Chinese Xuande Mark & Period Bronze Tripod Censer w/ Figural Elephant Feet. This important Chinese bronze censor has a nice form with two open handles and three figural elephant head feet. It has a wooden cover decorated with open lingzhi fungus and topped with white jade carved in the form of a man. It sits on a footed wooden base. The base of the censor is cast with the Xuande six character reign mark within a recessed rectangular panel and dates of the period circa 1426 - 1435.
The wooden mounts date later, possibly from the 18th or early 19th Century. All together with the mounts it measures approximately 8 inches tall and 7 + 1/8 inches at its widest point. The bronze alone measures approximately 4 + 3/8 inches high, 5 + 3/8 inches across the top, and 4 + ¼ inches across the foot rim.
It is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear, as can be seen in the photos. WE USE DAYLIGHT BULBS WHEN PHOTOGRAPHING. COLOR IS ACCURATE ON OUR MONITOR.
