Auctions is pleased to offer a very rare and stunningly beautiful six-piece set of classic huanghuali wood Chinese Demilune Tables or Yueyazhuo , with green yunnan marble top and four stools from Hubei Province, China. As graceful as their name implies, demilune tables have long held high status among their console counterparts. In French, "demilune" means "half-moon, " an evocative description of the semicircular shape which characterizes the form of this classic table. They blend elegance with space-saving functionality, with the flat rear sides sitting flush against a wall - fitting where a round table might not - and their curves make more efficient use of square footage than a rectangular, square or oval style table.

This fine pair is carved out of huanghuali wood, an extremely rare and highly desirable hardwood. The tables measure 51.5 inches in diameter by 32 inches in height (130.8 cm by 81.2 cm). They feature an intricately carved and highly auspicious cloud motif on the table top rim and legs, as well as the stools. The set is in very good used condition, with wear consistent to a dating from the early to mid-20th century, and they have a fine provenance coming from an important U.
